Design Center Guatemala
One Stop Home Shopping Experience

Now if you were to ask me… “Peter Bamboo… where do I go to find a whole bunch of really cool shops, with nifty things, design concepts, and professional capabilities to redesign my home,” I would tell you … DESIGN CENTER GUATEMALA. This place has many really interesting stores to visit, all very qualified for their product offerings, showroom inventory, and friendly staff.

Though this blog/ write up is mainly designed for the folks in Antigua, Sacatepequz, Guatemala… and more specifically those who are not familiar with the vast offerings Guatemala City provides to high ended minded consumers, this is also a reminder to the good folks in and around Guatemala to revisit a very beautiful Center to assist in the redesign of their abodes.

The past few years have been turbulent to say the least. Many individuals have ignored changes to their main houses because of economic uncertainty. People are finally starting to breath easier, a positive feeling is in the air and if you are considering a change in your home/ cottage/ beach resort; a visit to the design center will certainly help you figure out the missing touches you need to revitalize the look and feel you want.

IN SITU. My favorite store is “In Situ!” Eric Ledoigt/ Roberto Santa Cruz and team have a great vibe and man do

they know how to design. As they put it, “It’s a design company, dedicated to the setting and decoration of interiors, as well as to the development of innovative products, which join projects of remodeling houses, recreation houses, buildings, hotels, restaurants and others.”

So there is a bit of a taste of the new and the old and certainly of the abstract. “In Situ” offers the eclectic taste and is in line with a modern lean. It maintains comfort and tries to stray away from the conventional. You have seen their work in many places in Guatemala… the new “La Casbah” for instance. Visit their website at www.insitu-gt.com or visit their social network page at www.facebook.com/pages/Insitu-Guatemala. You will see images of past work and view their in-store layout prior to visiting in person.

CASA DIEZ. Another place to drop by is Casa Diez. You will be greeted by Monica Quan who is in her own right an Architecture graduate. Casa Diez was created by 10 separate franchises in Guatemala who specialize in separate niche markets but have combined their resources to provide buyers a one stop shop to pick up all their requirements under one roof. What is further note-worthy is there is now 14 different companies (Casa 14 in other words) so there are even more choices inside the store. Windows, kitchens, floors, locks, fixtures, faucets, glass, well you get the picture. Check out their website at www. casadiez.com.gt . Monica will take good care of you and provide a complete package solution for the do-it-yourself shopper.

ASIAN TROPICS. This is more of your wicker, rustic wood, vase ornamental type of store with an ancient Asian/ Mayan twist. The colours and variety of the store is warm and flavourable. I have always loved these types of stores where you go in and everything is comfortable, intriguing, and in many ways you feel it would be a positive reflection of your personal good taste if it adorned your living space. ShopAholics beware! While shopping to decorate your home, you must be careful about to not overspend as it is like Xmas inside, you will just keep buying everything that catches your eye.

So chairs, tables, vases, benches, foot stools, planters, bamboo everything (a personal fav of mine), frames, décor nic naks, coverings, mirrors, dressers, bars, pillows, desks, and yes, decorating ideas, you will find this experience to be a pleasant discovery, one that can offer you a savings of time to provide you with the convenience of getting it all from one location and getting it home to make your newly purchased home warm and inviting. This store is certainly geared to the individual who wants to decorate their home quickly with positive touches that will offer warm vibes and karma.

You will find “Asian Tropics” on the second level of the Design Center and online at www. Asiantropics.net. Their social network page is https://www.facebook.com/pages/Asian-Tropics/121641737896171 .
