One place recommended to me to shop at inside Le Mercado produce section is Tienda Silvia. The produce is excellent and the prices are dependable and very reasonable. Now that being said, you must understand there are no listed prices but it would be your best place to assure good quality produce at better prices in most any other place.
A simple selection of lettuce, onions, tomatoes, apples, lemons, carrots, and a few other items non mercado items (cheaper to purchase for instance at La Bodega) fetched me $10 usd. The produce was only 50Q.

While we are shopping we like to cheat on our diets by indulging none less for Hotdogs that are made American Style or what we like to call them in Montreal, “Steamies”. They are just that, steamed hotdogs and buns served with a generous portion of coleslaw and mustard and ketchup. Villa Burger offers doubles at 9Q. The owner is a gentleman and runs a no nonesense business that makes you feel comfortable and safe.
Around the Mercado you will find many of your senses fulfilled with the aromas of spices, meats and chickens, garden, and a certain stale scent that incorporates itself within small confined spaces. The hustle and bustle of the stalls and low hanging clothes is a haven for pick pockets or the likes and it is wise to be aware of your surroundings and properties at all times. But the payback to shop in the oldest form of shopping in the world is not just a treat but a mecca of consumerism at its purest. Dont expect any Wallmart greeters here.
